Ion Exchange Treatment

Aerojet also uses an ion exchange system to remove perchlorate from groundwater.

Through the ion exchange method, groundwater is treated by flowing the water through a tank filled with tiny beads – ion exchange resin. The perchlorate molecules in the water stick to the resin while the cleaned water passes through the system. This is very similar to the process that is used for home water softener systems. When the resin becomes saturated with perchlorate, it is replaced.
